5 Things My Kids Loved About the Oasis of the Seas

5 Things My Kids Loved About royal caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas

A Family Cruise Review by Getaway Guide Travel

When we set sail on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas this past January, I had high hopes—but even those were surpassed. Cruising with kids, especially our twin 9-year-old boys, turned out to be one of the most seamless, fun, and memory-packed vacations we've ever taken. As a travel advisor (and mom!), I’m always searching for experiences that strike the right balance of adventure, ease, and unforgettable fun. Oasis delivered.

If you’re thinking of booking a family-friendly cruise or wondering what ship offers the most for active kids, here’s a peek into what made this ship such a hit for our crew.

1. Adventure Activities Galore

The moment we stepped onboard, the boys spotted the rock climbing walls and their jaws dropped. We tackled them (more than once!), and the thrill was unbeatable.

But the real highlight? Laser tag in Studio B. Not only was it included in the cruise fare, but it was an adrenaline-pumping, glow-in-the-dark battle the boys couldn’t stop talking about.

Add in ice skating (yes, on a cruise ship!) and you’ve got non-stop excitement for high-energy kids.

Pro Tip for Parents: Laser tag and skating do fill up quickly—book those reservations in the Royal Caribbean app early!

Rock Climbing

Located on the back of the ship - limited hours were available, so just make sure to check the app!

2. Endless, Kid-Approved Food Options

Cruising with picky eaters? Oasis of the Seas makes it easy. Our boys discovered their love for the Windjammer buffet, where they could grab a plate of fries, a bowl of mac and cheese, or try something new whenever they wanted.

We also made daily visits to Sorrento’s Pizza—it quickly became our go-to snack spot for a quick slice between adventures.

Bonus for Parents: No dress codes. No dinner reservations required. Just easy, delicious food options around every corner.

Quick Tip

If you have a refreshment package or an alcoholic drink package, you can get Starbucks coffee at Cafe Promenade.

3. The Shows Were Next-Level

Royal Caribbean is known for its entertainment, but I wasn’t prepared for just how Broadway-level it would feel. The Aqua Show was breathtaking, and our boys were in awe of the high dives and acrobatics.

We also loved the ice skating show, complete with music, lights, and unbelievable choreography. Even the comedians and musicians at the smaller venues kept the whole family entertained.

If your kids can sit through a full movie or live performance, the shows on Oasis are a must.

So many choices!

From a Magic Show to Family Movie Night, we made many family memories in the main theater!

4. Family Trivia & Games = Unexpected Favorites

We stumbled into one of the ship’s family trivia games one afternoon—and never looked back. Whether it was Harry Potter facts or guessing Disney songs, these games turned into some of our kids' favorite moments onboard.

These sessions are casual, interactive, and inclusive—perfect for a quick brain break or a way to wind down before dinner.

Check out the Boardwalk

Don’t forget to catch a ride on the carousel, located in the Boardwalk neighborhood on the ship. It’s the first of it’s kind on sea. No extra cost!

5. The Kids Club Wasn’t Their Thing—And That’s Okay

In full transparency, the Adventure Ocean kids club didn’t wow my boys. While some kids may love the drop-off options and structured programming, mine preferred the freedom of exploring the ship with us and doing things as a family.

That’s the beauty of cruising with older kids on Oasis—you don’t need the kids club for everyone to have fun.

View of Curacao

They were amazed at the port stops, waking up in a new place is pretty exciting!

Final Thoughts: Is royal caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas Worth It for Families?

Absolutely. With built-in thrills, flexible dining, top-tier entertainment, and a layout that makes family travel feel easy, Oasis of the Seas hit the mark for us. Cruising with kids doesn’t have to be complicated—especially on a ship like this.

Thinking of booking your own family cruise? I’d love to help you plan a seamless, stress-free vacation—reach out and let’s get started! Schedule a Call to talk about your next trip >> Click Here
